Local Rules

  • Alternative to Stroke and Distance for Out of Bounds - Two-Stroke Penalty: If your ball is out of bounds AND you have not hit a provisional ball, you may take relief based on where the ball went out of bounds.
    • See this chart for guidelines on where to drop.
    • Please don't go back to the tee. Take your medicine and keep the round moving.

  • Alternative to Stroke and Distance for Lost Ball - One-Stroke Penalty: If your ball is lost while in play (i.e., not out of bounds) AND it's not in a penalty area AND you have not hit a provisional ball, you may take relief based on where the ball was lost.
    • See this chart for guidelines on where to drop.
    • This is for the times when you lose a ball in the middle of an open space because someone else picked up your ball, it's mysteriously lost in tall grass, or you've sliced it into the trees between Holes 5 and 6.
    • Reducing this from a two-stroke penalty to a one-stroke penalty makes it less penal given the number of times it seems to happen each season.

  • Hole 15 - Lost Ball vs. Out of Bounds: Given the difficulty in knowing if your ball is lost or out of bounds along the right side of the 15th hole, any ball that cannot be located should be considered lost. Use the alternative to stroke and distance mentioned above to determine the location of your next shot.

  • Damage-Free Lies - No Penalty: If you find your ball in a position where USGA relief rules don't apply but there's still potential of damaging your club if you play the ball where it lies, take relief as close as possible to the original spot no nearer the hole.
    • This is for the times when you're near a tree root or buried rock. There's no need for anyone to damage a club in our league.

  • Tap-in Gimmies - Pick up and Count the Stroke: Putts that finish within a foot of the hole don't need to be played. You can pick up the ball and add one stroke to your score.
